Glossy black and white tile floors and inviting bookshelves greet you just a few paces inside the entrance of the Oxford Exchange in downtown Tampa. It’s a hipster hangout, a classy business lunch setting, and popular place for foodies and bookworms alike.
I can’t wait to go.
This Sunday, May 5, I’ll be visiting OE (as the kids call it) for its 5th Annual Book Fair. Fifty or so acclaimed authors have been invited to set up tables and sell books inside the famed building where readers gather for leisure.
I’ll have both soft ($22) and hard ($38) cover copies of Finding Joy Beyond The Headlines for sale. I’ll even sign them if you’d like.
BUT, that’s not the best news.
I’ll also be taking $1 donations for my buddy, Mike Abramowitz. He’s featured in the AMBITION chapter of FJBTH. He runs PB&J For Tampa Bay – a non-profit dedicated to getting food to the homeless folks in his community. One Sunday each month they gather to make sandwiches for about an hour before scattering around the surrounding counties to hand out the food.
His acts of kindness exemplify what Jesus commanded us:
"The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me’.” Matthew 25:40 NIV
I partnered with Mike a few months back by offering the ‘PB&JOY’ promo code on our website. Now, for the first time, we’ll take donations in public during a book signing event. I’m very excited about this!
We can create joy for our homeless neighbors this weekend by giving $1 to the cause. That one buck equates to ten sandwiches. Imagine what JOY we could bring to our community by giving to those in need!
